See our projects page for information on how you can help support
the Tasaru
Girls' Rescue Centre, a safe house in Nakuru just under 100
miles west of Nairobi in
mostly
Massai territory where 95% of the women are circumcised and
have early arranged marriages. Girls escaping
to create another future for themselves are offered a safe
haven. They are given counselling, education and information
on
alternatives.
A recent talk in London, England raised over £200 to kick-start
our fund and more events are planned.
To quote from the words of volunteer Christopher Oloishuroh Murray
in an email he wrote to Afshin, a Friend of Feminenza who lives
in The
Netherlands:
“In an African set up, women are always viewed by men
as lesser members of the community. Their decisions are always
not respected, neither are they allowed to own anything in the
form of property; men decide everything on their behalf. I believe
if men could be brought together to appreciate the fact that
women are also human beings who need recognition and respect,
and can be used to change the society, then the violence against
women will stop. It's my prayer that this idea will be born and
nurtured in the minds and hearts of every man.
Brother, let's walk the way together!”
