Fundraising in The Netherlands
Fundraising Day for the Kenya Programme in Leiden,
8th October 2005
The venue, filled with African smells, colours, photos,
and sounds welcomed about 70 people for this uplifting event who
enjoyed delicious Kenyan food and traditional music throughout
the day.
The Kenyan Ambassador, Mrs. Kalimi, brought along her husband
and in her introduction explained: “I want him to see
and feel for himself that Feminenza is a 'manfriendly organisation”.
For 30 minutes those present were moved by the passion
of this lady's life. She
offered some inside stories about the big problems that face Africa
in these times
and
how she sees that Feminenza can help through this project of Humanity
and Gender.
The presentation by Mary Noble and Marion Verweij had a deep impact
on those present. there was a sense of the feeling of the
stillness of the land in Kenya, the many special meetings and moments
they had shared with people in Kenya, who all in their own
way seeking
betterment of the human situation.
The choir, from their recent months working into essences of
Africa through sound, songs, and a “garden of pictures from
Africa”, sang from their "African hearts"
with joy with a particular high point being their rendition of
''KWAHERI",
which means that you say goodbye but
expect to meet again.
"... I believe that every human has an Africa within
... and it is time now that we make that Africa in us smile ...” -
Ben Okri
